When it comes to athletic ability and prowess, I couldn’t nor would ever compare myself to Johnny Football; however, I did empathize with him a little last night. He was ready to be chosen first or at least second or even tenth maybe? You could see the discouragement on his face as he sat and waited. At #22, he was finally picked by the Cleveland Browns in last night’s NFL draft. I was excited!! Johnny and the Browns – I like it. I am a Cleveland Browns fan. Always have been and always will. The idea of a potentially improving team makes me smile. But, I was grinning for more than one reason. Manziel got picked after a wait that probably seemed way too long and with this I could relate.
Waiting for a pastorate has been tough at times. It’s been six months of prayer, emails, resumes, message updates, and blogs to try and get my name out there. I want to play for a team and help make a difference in a city or town, and community. I’m ready to make an impact and I’m expectant and ready to preach, love, serve, and help bring hope, joy, and restoration to the lives of those who feel like “mistakes” and always seem to end up in last place. My time will come. God knows what He’s doing and I’m standing by waiting on the call.
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11
